This week, we’re highlighting new and recent federal grant opportunities for which non-profit organizations are eligible.
These grants come from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of State (DOS), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Department of the Interior (DOI).
1. HHS – Service Area Competition
This HHS announcement solicits applications for the Health Center Program’s Service Area Competition (SAC). The Health Center Program supports patient-directed public and private nonprofit organizations that provide primary and preventive health care services to the Nation’s medically underserved. The purpose of the SAC funding opportunity is to ensure continued access to comprehensive, culturally competent, quality primary health care services for communities and vulnerable populations.
2. DOS – DRL Freedom of Expression
The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) has launched an open competition for a 24-month regional project to defend and bolster press freedom and freedom of expression in Latin America. The goal of the project is to promote a strategic regional approach to combating restrictive media policies and regulations, as well as other government constraints to free expression.
3. NEH – Digital Humanities Advancement Grants
The Digital Humanities Advancement Grants (DHAG) program supports digital projects throughout their life cycles, from early start-up phases through implementation and long-term sustainability. Experimentation and reuse are hallmarks of this grant category, leading to innovative work that can scale to enhance research, teaching, and public programming in the humanities.
4. NEH – Dialogues on the Experience of War
The NEH Dialogues on the Experience of War program supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others to think more deeply about the issues raised by war and military service. The humanities sources can be drawn from history, philosophy, literature, and film. They should be supplemented by testimonials from those who have served.
5. DOI – 2017 Preservation Technology and Training Grants
The 2017 Preservation Technology and Training Grants (PTT Grants) are intended to create better tools, better materials, and better approaches to conserving buildings, landscapes, sites, and collections. The PTT Grants are administered by the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training (NCPTT), the National Park Service’s innovation center for the preservation community. The competitive grants will, among other things, support innovative research, specialized workshops, mobile applications, podcasts, or webinars that disseminate practical preservation methods or provide better tools for preservation practice.
