This week we’ve seen several grants for research posted on Grants.gov. The areas of research are in nuclear forensics, ecology, humanities, and space. There is also an opportunity to support Tribal communities in repairing brownfields lands.
1. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – Nuclear Forensics Research Award
The National Technical Nuclear Forensics Center (NTNFC) is inviting U.S. colleges and universities to apply for the Nuclear Forensics Research Award. This award supports the establishment of a team of faculty, students, and technical staff at the national or defense laboratories to conduct research in the field of nuclear forensics.
2. Department of Commerce (DOC) – FY2017 Marine Debris Research
This National Oceanic and Atmospheric (NOAA) program supports eligible entities conduct research directly related to marine debris through field, laboratory, and modeling experiments. The Marine Debris Program supports research that explores the ecological risk associated with marine debris, determines debris exposure levels, and examines the fate and transport of marine debris in nearshore, coastal environments.
3. National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) – Collaborative Research Grants
The Collaborative Research Grants support interpretive humanities research undertaken by two or more collaborating scholars, for full-time or part-time activities for periods of one to three years.
Eligible projects include: (1) research that significantly adds to knowledge and understanding of the humanities, (2) conferences on topics of major importance in the humanities that will benefit scholarly research, (3) archaeological projects that emphasize interpretation, data reuse, and dissemination of results.
The EPA’s Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization (OBLR) is soliciting proposals from eligible entities to provide technical assistance to increase the capacity of tribal governments to build sustainable brownfield programs and to establish, manage, and administer tribal CERCLA 128(a) response programs.
Generally Tribal Response Programs address brownfields on tribal lands, minimize the actual and perceived health risks associated with contamination from brownfield properties, and strengthen partnerships between tribal entities, governmental, and non-governmental organizations engaged in brownfields redevelopment.
5. National Aeronautics and Space Administration – ROSES 2016: Heliophysics Living with a Star
NASA’s heliophysics strategic objective is to understand the sun and its interactions with the earth and the solar system, including space weather. The program supports investigations in all subdisciplines of heliophysics and also supports investigations that span the subdisciplines and address a systems approach — emphasizing the understanding of fundamental processes and interconnections across the traditional science disciplines.
