The grant opportunities posted this week to Grants.gov showcase the wide range of public services and programs that federal funds support. Below are opportunities promoting design innovation among students, language instruction, the protection of abducted children, water conservation, and training for parents of children with disabilities.
1) Environmental Protection Agency – 14th Annual P3 Awards: A National Student Design Competition for Sustainability Focusing on People, Prosperity and the Planet – Energy
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – as part of its People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) Award Program – is seeking applications proposing to research, develop, and design solutions to real world challenges involving sustainability. The P3 competition highlights the use of scientific principles in creating innovative projects focused on sustainability. The P3 Award Program was developed to foster progress toward sustainability by achieving the mutual goals of improved quality of life, economic prosperity and protection of the planet—people, prosperity, and the planet—the three pillars of sustainability. The EPA offers the P3 competition in order to respond to the technical needs of the world while moving towards the goal of sustainability.
2) Department of State, Bureau Of Educational and Cultural Affairs – FY 2017 National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)
The Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an open competition for one cooperative agreement for the FY2017 National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program. NSLI-Y is designed to increase the number of American youth (ages 15 to 18) who learn critical foreign languages in support of the U.S. foreign policy goals of increasing national security, promoting U.S. competitiveness, building mutual understanding, and involving the robust participation of youth.
3) Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention – OJJDP FY 17 National Amber Alert Training and Technical Assistant Program
The AMBER Alert program is a partnership of law enforcement, broadcasters and media, transportation agencies, emergency management agencies, telecommunications/call centers, other public safety agencies, and child protection organizations and professionals dedicated to recovering endangered missing and abducted children. The National AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program serves to increase the nation’s capacity to respond to incidents of endangered missing and abducted children.
4) Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation – Agricultural Water Conservation and Efficiency Grants
The objective of this Agricultural Water Conservation Efficiency (AWCE) FOA is to invite Indian Tribes, irrigation districts, water districts and other organizations with water or power delivery authority located in the state of California to leverage their money and resources by cost sharing with Reclamation on projects that save water, improve water management, create new supplies for agricultural irrigation, improve energy efficiency, and benefit endangered species. Water conservation and water use efficiency are critical elements of any plan to address these resource issues. Projects that achieve this by increasing the capability or success rate of on-farm water conservation or water use efficiency projects that can be undertaken by farmers and ranchers will be a high priority for this program, as reflected through the increased weighting of this category in 2016.
5) Department of Education – Training and Information for Parents of Children With Disabilities: Community Parent Resource Centers
This grant program is open to local parent organizations and aims to ensure that parents of children with disabilities receive training and information to help improve results for their children.
