#FundingFriday: Federal Grants Supporting Unique Educational Programs

This week’s #FundingFriday post highlights grant opportunities supporting educational initiatives from the Departments of State and Education. The programs serve veterans, children with disabilities as well as populations in the Middle East, Pakistan and India.

1. Department of State, U.S. Mission to Pakistan – English Language Teacher Exchange

The project will promote the development of English language, classroom pedagogy, community engagement and leadership skills of the participants through first-hand experience and networking with English language teaching peers in the United States. Through teamwork activities, the program will develop participants’ classroom, leadership, communication skills, and teacher trainer skills. In addition to enhancing the participants’ ability to implement effective English language programs in Pakistan, the exchange program will provide participants a better understanding of the United States, its people, and its democratic values.

2. Department of State – Advancing Palestinian Youth Educational and Community Engagement Opportunities

The Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Office of Assistance Coordination (NEA/AC) seeks proposals that will assist in the advancement of higher education opportunities for financially disadvantaged Palestinian youth in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza to ultimately foster future leaders who create positive change in their communities.

3. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) – Veterans Upward Bound Program

The Upward Bound (UB) Program is one of the seven programs known as the Federal TRIO Programs. The UB Program is a discretionary grant program that supports projects designed to provide students with the skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and to enter into, and succeed in, a program of postsecondary education. There are three types of grants under the UB Program: UB; Veterans UB; and UB Math and Science (UBMS) grants. In this notice we invite applications for Veterans UB (VUB) grants only. The VUB Program supports projects designed to prepare, motivate, and assist military veterans.

4. Department of Education – Developing Software to Adapt and Customize Instruction in Digital Learning Environments to Improve Results for Children with Disabilities

The purposes of the Educational Technology, Media, and Materials for Individuals with Disabilities Program are to: (1) Improve results for students with disabilities by promoting the development, demonstration, and use of technology; (2) support educational activities designed to be of educational value in the classroom for students with disabilities; (3) provide support for captioning and video description that is appropriate for use in the classroom; and (4) provide accessible educational materials to students with disabilities in a timely manner.

5. Department of State, U.S. Mission to India – Women in STEM Roadshow

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi (PAS New Delhi) in coordination with U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad and U.S. Consulate General Kolkata seeks proposals for a project entitled “Women in STEM Roadshow.” Through this project, a grantee will organize a “Women in STEM Roadshow” comprised of nine workshops in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities in the consulate districts of New Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The workshops will provide information to girls and young women about pursuing opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields – areas which represent an important source of professional employment opportunities in India. The workshops would also highlight STEM educational opportunities at U.S. institutions of higher learning, and introduce participants to EducationUSA.
