Grants.gov user registration is quick, easy, and free of charge. However, applicant users who are adding a new organization profile to their Grants.gov account must first ensure that they have a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) Number and that their organization has registered with the System for Award Management (SAM).
What follows is a quick guide to making sure that you have everything you need to add a new organization profile to Grants.gov: a DUNS Number, a SAM registration, and Grants.gov account to which you want to associate the new organization.
Note: The instructions below are for new organizations or organizations that have never applied for a federal grant before. Most applicant users work for organizations that already completed these steps to do business with the federal government.
|1. Obtain a DUNS Number||Call 1-866-705-5711 or access the Dun & Bradstreet website at http://fedgov.dnb.com/webform. This step usually takes 1-2 business days.|
|2. Register with SAM.gov||Access https://www.sam.gov and complete the online registration process.* You also need the authorizing official of the organization to send a notarized letter to SAM and an Employer Identification Number (EIN).|
*Note: Your organization must provide a notarized letter within 60-days to SAM to officially complete your registration. For the most up-to-date information, please contact the SAM help desk at 866-606-8220 or consult this Federal Service Desk Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) for more information.
After SAM receives the notarized letter, processing of your registration can take up to two weeks. It can take up to five more weeks to acquire an EIN.
|3. Create a Grants.gov Account||Click the Register link in the top banner of Grants.gov and complete the on-screen instructions. Registering with Grants.gov takes just a couple of minutes and is completely free.|
|4. Add an Organization Profile||During the initial registration process, you will be given an opportunity to add an organization profile. This step allows you to associate your user account with your organization’s DUNS Number.|
Users can also add an organization profile at any other time. Read this helpful article to learn more.
